In simple terms conveyancing is the legal process involved in buying, selling, leasing, transferring, mortgaging or re-mortgaging a property. It involves a thorough investigation of the title to a property, preparation of deeds and documents and importantly ensuring that good title passes to the purchaser. Additional formalities must also be attended to including liaising with Revenue Commissioners and Property Registration Authority regarding payment of stamp duty and registration of title.
